Aligarh: Police arrest Anwar Hussain, brother of Samajwadi Party leader in beef smuggling case, court sends him to custody

Aligarh Police on Friday (19th June) arrested Anwar Hussain, brother of Samajwadi Party leader and former Union Minister Sarwar Hussain, in connection with the smuggling of beef. Anwar Hussain, a resident of Khwaishiyan, Pathanwara in Khurja town of the Bulandshahr district, in Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody from his residence. He is the owner of Al-Hamd Meat Factory located in Khurja.

The arrest comes in connection with the interception and seizure of a vehicle carrying beef on January 15, 2026, in Chandaus village. Police had intercepted the vehicle after receiving information about its movement. After intercepting the vehicle, the police seized the consignment of meat, weighing over 700 kg, and sent samples for testing in a laboratory in Mathura. Test results confirmed that the meat was beef. Subsequently, a case was registered under the relevant provisions of the Cow Slaughter Act, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the BNS.

CO Gabhana Mahesh Kumar said reports of the lab tests received last month confirmed that the meat was beef. It was revealed during the interrogation of the driver of the vehicle that the meat had been procured from the Al-Hamd Meat Factory in Khurja. On Friday, a team led by Chandous Inspector Satyaveer Singh arrested factory owner Anwar Hussain.

The police arrested Anwar’s employee, Islam Khan, a resident of Tiliyapur village under the C.B. Ganj police station in Bareilly, a day before, on Thursday (18th June). Both Islam Khan and Anwar Hussain were produced before a magistrate, from where they were sent into custody. The investigation in the case, which has been going on for months, led to the arrests.
