Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday evening said that the Centre has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the car explosion near Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi. Shah also said he was soon going to visit the LNJP Hospital to meet the victims.
A moving i20 car exploded in front of the Red Fort Metro Station Gate number 1, Shah revealed.
Within ten minutes of the incident, Shah said, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and other agencies had reached the spot to begin a coordinated probe.
“CCTV footage from nearby areas has been ordered to be collected and analysed immediately,” the Home Minister said, adding that Delhi Police Commissioner and the Special Branch in-charge were already present at the site to oversee the operation.
Shah confirmed that NIA (National Investigation Agency), NSG (National Security Guard) and FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) teams have joined the investigation and are conducting “deep inspections” to ascertain the cause and nature of the blast.
“We are reviewing all angles and exploring all possibilities. A thorough investigation will be conducted, and the findings will be presented to the people transparently,” Shah said.
He also announced plans to personally visit the blast site and the hospital where the injured have been admitted. “Our priority is to ensure the safety of citizens and bring complete clarity on what led to this explosion,” he added.
The explosion, which occurred near Gate No. 1 of Red Fort Metro Station, triggered panic in the area, damaging multiple vehicles parked nearby. Security agencies have since cordoned off the area as forensic experts continue to collect samples.
