Amritsar Police bust ISI-linked terror module, the accused carried smuggled weapons and planned to kill a cop in Gurdaspur

Amritsar Rural Police recently busted a major ISI-sponsored terror and cross-border arms smuggling module, as informed by the DGP, Punjab Police, Gaurav Yadav, on Saturday (March 14, 2026). The police have arrested two suspects and seized advanced weapons smuggled from across the border. The weapons include 1 AK-47 rifle with 2 magazines, 36 live cartridges, and 3 sophisticated Glock 9mm pistols.

The DGP said that a preliminary investigation has revealed the accused were involved in radicalisation and spreading an anti-India narrative. “Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused were in contact with foreign-based handlers through social media. The module was also involved in radicalisation and spreading Anti-India and Anti-Police narratives. An FIR has been registered at PS Gharinda, Amritsar Rural. Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages and dismantle the entire network,” read a post by DGP Punjab Police on Saturday.

An FIR has been registered in the case at Gharinda police station. The accused have been identified as Gursevak Singh alias Suraj, a resident of New Abadi in Attari, Amritsar, and Amarjit Singh alias Rohit, a resident of Subhash Road in Chheharta, Amritsar. The accused were produced before a local court on Friday evening, which remanded them to five days of police custody for further interrogation.

Weapons were dropped into India by a Pakistani drone

According to SSP Amritsar Rural Sohail Mir, the arrest and the seizure took place during a raid in the Mahwa village. The police actions followed some intelligence inputs about an assassination plot against a policeman. The weapons were dropped by a Pakistani drone inside the Indian territory near the Muhawa border village in the Attari sub-division in a blue-coloured suitcase. They were meant to be transported to Gurdaspur, where the accused planned to kill a cop.

SSP Mir said that a case under sections 25(1)(A), 25(6), 25(7), and 25(8) of the Arms Act and sections 13, 16 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) has been lodged at Police Station Gharinda. “The Punjab Police will not tolerate terror activities and remain fully alert to protect the state,” SSP Mir said.

Two Punjab Police cops were killed in February

This comes an ISI connection was revealed in the murder of two policemen in Adhian village in February 2026. Assistant Sub-Inspector Gurnam Singh and Home Guard Ashok Kumar were found murdered on February 22, 2026, inside a police checkpost at Adhian village, which is just a kilometre away from the Pakistan border. It was later revealed that they were killed by three young men, who were hired by Pakistan’s ISI. Subsequently, on February 26, 2026, one of the accused, 19-year-old Ranjit Singh, was killed in a police encounter, while his associate, 21-year-old Dilawer Singh, was arrested. A third accused, 20-year-old Inderjit Singh, managed to escape.
