In Assam’s Sonapur, the local people handed over two Bangladeshi nationals to the police on Saturday (21st December) after finding out that the Bangladeshi duo had illegally entered India.
As per an Assam Tribune report, Muhammad Tahil and Abdul Mannan paid Rs 20,000 to border touts who helped them enter Assam.
The arrested infiltrators are from Bangladesh’s Sylhet district. Muhammad Tahil and Abdul Mannan admitted to entering and residing in India illegally. The arrested duo were carrying two Bangladesh SIM cards and had been staying in Sonapur’s Kosutoli area for the last four months, working as labourers under false names to escape identification.
This comes after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the state’s continuous fight against illegal infiltration. During an event in Samaguri on Friday, CM Sarma expressed serious concern over the situation and vowed to take strict action against those attempting to destabilise Assam.
