The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to examine the issue of missing donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, has submitted its preliminary report to the Yogi government. The report was handed over by Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad on Tuesday, 23rd June.
Pant said the investigation is still in progress and more information is being collected. According to him, the report submitted now is only the first part of the inquiry, and the final report is expected within the next 10 to 15 days.
The Uttar Pradesh government had set up the SIT on 13th of June after the Ram Temple Trust requested an inquiry into concerns related to the handling of donations received at the temple. Pant said the findings of the report cannot be shared publicly at this stage because the document is confidential.
He also confirmed that the SIT may visit Ayodhya again if needed as the investigation moves forward.
Akhilesh Yadav raises questions over donations
On 7th June, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav referred to reports claiming that crores of rupees from temple donations were missing. He urged the courts to take note of the issue and called for daily updates on the SIT investigation. Yadav also questioned the credibility of the probe, saying public confidence had been affected by corruption-related concerns under the BJP government.
Officials said the investigation is still underway and further information is being collected before the final report is submitted.
