A high platform designed for a Jain religious celebration in Bagpat, UP crashed down on Tuesday, January 28. So far, 6 persons have been reported dead and over 80 have been injured in the incident.

An event commemorating the Nirvana Mahotsav of Jain deity Bhagwan Adinath was underway at the Jain College grounds in Badaut, Bagpat. The high platform was made so that devotees could offer Laddu. The wooden platform made with iron steps collapsed under weight, creating a stampede-like conditions in the area. Dozens of injured persons have been pulled out so far and sent to the hospital.
