Bangladesh: Muslim mob vandalises house of Hindu journalist, attacks his family after death of radical anti-India leader Osman Hadi

On Friday (19th December), a frenzied Muslim mob vandalised the residence of Hindu journalist Sushant Dasgupta following demonstrations over the death of radical anti-India leader Osman Hadi.

The incident occurred in the Chirakandi area in Habiganj town in Sylhet Division of Bangladesh. Sushant Dasgupta is associated with the daily Amar Habiganj.

He has been living in the United Kingdom since his release on bail, following an arbitrary arrest under the Digital Security Act (DSA) in 2020.

In visuals that have surfaced on social media, a violent Muslim mob could be seen ambushing the house of Sushanta Dasgupta and extensively carrying out vandalism.

According to journalist B Jahanara Nuri, the mother and sister of the Hindu journalist had a narrow escape during the targeted attack.

While tweeting about the matter, author Deep Halder wrote, “Sushanta Dasgupta is a Bangladeshi investigative journalist based in London. He has written on the financial frauds of Yunus and the targeted attacks on Hindus. This is the price his family still in Bangladesh has to pay!”
