On the evening of 4th January, communal tension gripped Bengaluru’s Jagjeevan Ram Nagar when two persons, including a child, were hurt when stones were thrown at a Hindu procession near VS Garden. The event happened at approximately 8 pm when devotees were pulling the deity’s chariot as part of a procession that started at the nearby Om Shakti temple.
The stones were hurled, reportedly by the youths of the Muslim community from the surrounding areas under the cover of darkness.

According to a police officer, a complaint regarding the occurrence has been received. A young girl was hit on the head alongside a child who also suffered a head wound. The two were rushed for medical treatment, and their condition is currently stable. Afterwards, a sizable crowd assembled outside the JJ Nagar Police Station to demand strict action against the perpetrators immediately. Hindu organisations also expressed their anger over the attack on the devotees.
Protesters charged that the assailants were members of the Muslim community. The police remarked that this accusation is being probed. They insisted that a comprehensive probe will be carried out and facts are going to be confirmed.
However, the Hindu demonstrators revealed that they endure such problems in the neighbourhood regularly. They requested that a wall be built there to keep them from being targeted, voicing that they are constantly spending their lives in fear. They further conveyed that women and children are frequently singled out on the streets. Moreover, it has become very hard for the girls to take the roads. The complainants asked for protection from the government and mentioned that anyone who speaks up or protest are sought and harassed.

The authorities informed that a formal complaint has been filed and efforts are underway to identify the culprits. The declared, “Necessary action will be taken against those involved once their identities are established.” Furthermore, security was increased to avert any escalation, and more cops were stationed at the scene of the incident, as well as adjacent to the police station.
Bengaluru West Deputy Commissioner N. Yathish stated that police personnel have been put in place in the vicinity as a precaution, and the situation is currently under control. He noted that the accusations are being investigated, and the outcome will decide the future proceedings.
