Bihar: Senior IAS officer includes 36 books written by own father in Panchayat library purchase list, govt to probe

A new case of alleged corruption and ‘conflict of interest’ has come to light from Bihar. As per reports, senior IAS officer Mihir Singh, during his term in the Panchayati Raj department, allegedly included 36 books written by his own father in the list of books to be purchased in bulk by the department for the libraries at the Panchayat level.

A detailed report by News18 stated that in the official list of the books to be purchased in bulk, 36 books were written by a single author, JP Singh, the father of the senior IAS officer. Only one author has more number of books in the list, legendary Hindi poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar.

It is not known how much monetary benefit, if any, this inclusion brought for the said officer’s family. But a senior-level officer misusing his position to provide a platform for his own father’s books has raised eyebrows in the state.

Mihir Kumar Singh was the additional chief secretary of the Panchayati Raj Department when the books were approved. He is currently posted in the road construction department. He has denied any wrongdoing and has stated that his father JP Singh was a prolific writer who had been awarded the Padmashree in 2013 and it is not controversial that his books feature in the library purchase list.
