Firebrand leader Nupur Sharma, who was shunted out of the BJP after Alt News cofounder Mohammad Zubair painted a target behind her in 2023, may have her suspension revoked, senior party leader Baijayant Jay Panda hinted in a conversation with News 18 journalist Rahul Shivshankar.
Speaking on whether Nupur Sharma was ever in contention for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, Panda said, “I am not going into the specifics of it…BJP is the world’s largest political party, it is also the most transparent democratic party. Yesterday’s tea seller is your three-time Prime Minister and the world’s most popular leader…so any karyakarta can aspire to contest elections, it is not a party where people can pull strings and get a ticket.”
He added, “We consult our karyakartas at district levels, at state levels. It goes up to the highest level. And we have considered all aspirants and come up with the strongest candidates.”
Amidst BJP breaks silence over Nupur Sharma. Party V-P, BJP MP and Delhi poll in-charge Jay Panda tells me that the ecosystem selectively targeted her.

On being asked if Nupur Sharma was in the wrong, Panda replied, “There is certainly a hypocrisy out there…when people are targeted because there are people who have openly defended the killers of the poor tailor in Rajasthan (Kanhaiya Lal).”
