On Saturday (1st February), the Modi govt gave a massive boost to the agriculture sector by announcing multiple schemes for the farmers in the Union Budget for the Financial Year 2025-2026.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the ‘Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojna’, which will be implemented in partnership with the States, and will benefit a whopping 1.7 crore farmers.
She added that the scheme will generate employment opportunities in rural areas, which will make migration an option and not a necessity.
Nirmala Sitharaman also announced the constitution of a ‘Makhana Board’ in Bihar to enhance value addition and processing. The loan limit has been increased to ₹5 lakhs from the existing ₹3 lakhs under Kisan Credit Card (KCC).
At the same time, a urea plant of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes will be set up in Assam to benefit farmers.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also announced the launch of the ‘Atmanirbharta Mission’ for pulses to ensure self-sufficiency in production.
