As per reports, 5 policemen have been injured in the stone pelting by a mob that consisted of dozens of Muslims. The mob was so violent that the police team had to backtrack for some time.

The Faiz-e-Ilahi mosque was in the news weeks ago when it was revealed that the suicide bomber, Dr Umar Nabi had visited the mosque before carrying out the Red Fort blast.

When the police and MCD team arrived with bulldozers, there was a crowd over over a hundred people, as per reports. The police spoke to the people and explained to them that they are there to carry out a High Court order, to demolish illegal encroachments in the area. The crowd dispersed, but as the demolition work started, a violent mob appeared with stones and started attacking the police team.

The mob was so aggressive that the police team had to backtrack for some time. The mob managed to push the police team back towards the main road with their stone pelting attacks.

Eventually the police managed to control the mob by using tear gas shells.

Madhur Verma, Joint Commissioner of Police, Central Range, was quoted by ANI as saying, “During the course of the demolition, a few miscreants attempted to create a disturbance by indulging in stone pelting. The situation was promptly brought under control through measured and minimal use of force, ensuring that normalcy was restored without escalation.”
