CBI arrests court official in Delhi’s Tis Hazari Courts for taking bribe to facilitate bail application in a bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a court official for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe to facilitate a bail application in a bribery case at one of Delhi’s busiest district courts.

According to the CBI, the accused, identified as the Reader to Additional Sessions Judge-02 (ASJ-02) at Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi, was caught red-handed while accepting ₹ 20,000 as part payment of a total demanded bribe of ₹ 30,000. The official allegedly sought the bribe from a complainant to help process and allow his client’s bail application.

The accused has not yet been named in the official CBI release, however, media reports identify him as Sanjeev Sadana.

The agency registered the case on April 23, 2026, based on a formal complaint. CBI officials laid a trap the same day and nabbed the accused while he was demanding and accepting the partial bribe amount. He has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.

Tis Hazari Courts, located in central Delhi, handle a high volume of cases daily, with Readers playing a key role in managing court files, proceedings, and administrative tasks linked to judges. Such positions often involve direct interaction with litigants and lawyers, making them vulnerable to corruption complaints.

In its official statement, the CBI reiterated its commitment to curbing corruption in public offices. The agency urged citizens to report instances of bribery by public servants and provided contact details for lodging complaints.
