Congress peddles fake news to discredit Operation Sindoor, lies about Modi govt not ‘recognising’ martyrs for a year: Here is the truth

On Friday (26th June), Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera took to X (formerly Twitter) to peddle fake news about the Indian government ‘withholding’ the names of the bravehearts who sacrificed their life during Operation Sindoor.

In a bizarre attempt to mainstream Pakistani propaganda, he claimed, “For an entire year, the BJP government chose to conceal their martyrdom from the nation.”

“The same government that wraps itself in the flag and speaks endlessly of nationalism denied these heroes the recognition and remembrance they deserved. Such a shame!” Khera brazened out.

Unlike Pakistan, India and its government have never withheld the identity of its martyrs. Contrary to the claims of the Congress spokesperson, the names of Sgt Surendra Kumar, Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh, Rifleman Sunil Kumar, AgniVeer Mood Muralinaik and L/Nk Dinesh Kumar have been in the public domain for more than a year.

On 7th May 2025, the White Knight Corps acknowledged the martyrdom of L/NK Dinesh Kumar, which occured during shelling by the Pakistan Army in Poonch.

On 11th May 2025, it was reported in the media that Rifleman Sunil Kumar died in action during the shelling by Pakistan in RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

On 16th May last year, the White Knight Corps posted a tweet in honour of the supreme sacrifice made by Subedar Major Pawan Kumar during Operation Sindoor.

On 20th May 2025, the WHite Knight Corps tweeted about the martyrdom of AgniVeer Mood Muralinaik during Operation Sindoor.

In June last year, the Indian Army paid tribute to Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh, who passed away after battling grievous injuries caused during Operation Sindoor.

In August 2025, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh met the family of late Sgt Surendra Kumar, who laid down his life during Operation Sindoor.

In addition to individual tweets from the battalions, the Indian Armed Forces held a press conference on 11th May 2025 to honour the supreme sacrifice of 5 soldiers. Given that Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh was undergoing treatment at that time, only 5 casualties were acknowledged during the press briefing.

Pawan Khera, in his bid to score political brownies, falsely claimed that the Indian government somehow hid the names of the 6 martyrs. Also, many media portals published misleading headlines to give the impression that the government had acknowledged the names of the martyrs for the first time.

The truth is that the names had been in the public domain for more than a year. On Friday (26th June), the names of Sgt Surendra Kumar, Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh, Rifleman Sunil Kumar, AgniVeer Mood Muralinaik and L/Nk Dinesh Kumar were formally inscribed in the National War Memorial.

It will come as no surprise if the lies peddled by the Congress spokesperson and some Indian media portals is used by the Pakistani media and its deep State to target India.
