Deoria, UP: Illegally built Abdul Gani Shah mazar bulldozed by administration, court-ordered anti-encroachment drive clears public space

In UP’s Deoria, an illegal mazar built near a public road has been razed by bulldozers after a court order to remove it. As per reports, the Hazrat Saiyyad Abdul Gani Shah mazar was built by encroaching on government land near an overbridge in Deoria. The bulldozer action to remove the illegal structure started on Sunday and is continuing on Monday too.

On Sunday, three bulldozers were brought in by the city administration to remove the main entrance, boundary wall, six pillars, three shops, domes and other constructions erected illegally beside a busy road on government land. The mazar complex also has a hall and a basement, which are being demolished today.

MLA Shalabh Mani Tripathi had brought the illegal mazar built by encroachment of the government land to the notice of CM Yogi Adityanath.

The local administration deployed over 300 policemen to maintain law and order during the demolition drive. SDM Shruti Sharma was also present to oversee the procedure.

The demolition was carried out as per a court order. A case was filed in 2019 citing the illegal construction and blatant encroachment of public space near a busy road. The SDM office has informed that the demolition drive was legal and has been carried out to comply with a court order.
