‘Filthy abuses hurled, slipper raised to hit’: Lalu’s daughter Rohini in emotional post after quitting party and family, says she was accused of donating ‘dirty’ kidney to father

A day after Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya announced that she is quitting the party and ‘disowning’ her family, she accused on Sunday that she was subjected to intense verbal abuse and physical intimidation refusing to compromise her “self-respect”. In a shocking fallout from the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) devastating defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, Rohini Acharya, who donated a kidney to save her father’s life in 2022, posted a deeply emotional Hindi post on X early Sunday morning, saying she had to endure the insult for not surrendering the truth.

She wrote in her post, ‘Yesterday, a daughter, a sister, a married woman, a mother was humiliated, filthy abuses were hurled at her, a slipper was raised to hit her. I did not compromise on my self-respect, I did not surrender the truth, and solely because of this, I had to endure this insult… Yesterday, a daughter was forced to leave behind her crying parents and sisters and move away; they separated me away from my maternal home… They left me orphaned… May none of you ever walk my path, may no family ever have a daughter-sister like Rohini.’

In another post on X, she wrote, “Yesterday, I was cursed at and told that I am dirty, and that I got my father to have my dirty kidney transplanted into him, took crores of rupees, bought a ticket, and then got that dirty kidney put in… To all the daughters and sisters who are married, I will say that when there’s a son or brother in your maternal home, never, ever save your god-like father; instead, tell your brother, the son of that house, to get his own kidney or that of one of his Haryanvi friends transplanted… All sisters and daughters should look after their own homes and families, take care of their children and their in-laws’ household without caring for their parents, think only about themselves… For me, it became a huge sin that I didn’t look after my family, my three children, didn’t take permission from my husband or my in-laws when donating the kidney… I did what I did to save my god, my father, and today it’s been called dirty… May none of you ever make a mistake like mine, may no family ever have a daughter like Rohini.”

Rohini announced on X yesterday that she is quitting politics and disowning her family, adding, “This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do …and I’m taking all the blames.”

This dramatic announcement did not come out of nowhere. For the past few weeks, signs of a rift within the family had been visible. Last month, Acharya unfollowed her father, Lalu Prasad and brother Tejashwi on X, triggering speculation. She had also supported criticism of Sanjay Yadav, who was seen by many as becoming too powerful within the party.

Speaking to reporters at Patna airport yesterday, an anguished Acharya directly blamed her younger brother Tejashwi Yadav and his two closest aides, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav and political advisor Rameez Ahmad, for orchestrating her expulsion from the family.

She said, “I have no family. Ask Sanjay Yadav, Rameez, and Tejaswi about this. If you mention Sanjay Yadav or Rameez, you’ll be thrown out of the house, defamed, abused, and beaten with slippers.”

She alleged the confrontation erupted when she questioned the overwhelming influence of Sanjay Yadav and Rameez over party decisions and the reasons behind the RJD’s electoral collapse.

Notably, just a week ago before the election results, Rohini called Tejashwi a ‘Karmaveer,’ saying he was “Young in age, but with a true heart and a firm tongue,” in X post wishing him on his birthday.

This is not the first public rift in the Yadav family. Lalu’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav has also been removed from the party and the family after his photos and videos with a woman named Anushka Yadav appeared, suggesting that they are together. Tej Pratap has formed his own party Janshakti Janata Dal and contested the Bihar Assembly Elections. However, he and his party didn’t win any seat.
