On Monday (3rd August), a Delhi court acquitted former MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in a sexual harassment case involving female wrestlers.
In 2023, 6 women wrestlers had accused Singh of sexual harassment. A First Information Report (FIR) was also registered against him. Later, a chargesheet was filed, and the ex-MP was booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 354 (outraging modesty), 354A (sexually coloured remarks), 354D (stalking) and 506(1) (criminal intimidation).
In May 2024, the trial court framed charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the case, claiming that there was ‘sufficient material on record.’

Singh says he has been proven right.

But on Monday, he was acquitted of all charges. The matter was heard by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ashwini Panwar of the Rouse Avenue Courts. The lawyers of the former MP pointed out that it was an ‘honourable acquittal.’
The other accused in the case, Vinod Tomar, the ex-Assistant Secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), has also been acquitted.
A minor had also alleged harassment by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who was the former President of WFI. However, she later withdrew her complaint and the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act was closed.
It must be mentioned that advocates Rajiv Mohan, Rishabh Bhati, Rehan Khan and Suryansh Singh appeared in court to represent Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
