A court in France has on December 19, sentenced the husband of Gisele Pelicot to 20 years in jail for aggravated rape. As per reports, all accused in the case have been convicted by the court, for committing and participating in a harrowing and prolonged sexual exploitation and rape of a woman.
The quantum of sentences varies between 3 to 20 years, as per reports.

All 51 defendants have been found guilty by the court. Gisele Pelicot’s husband had carried out an unprecedented abuse of his own wife, by often drugging her and inviting strangers online to rape her in exchange for money.
Showing exemplary courage and conviction at the age of 68, Pelicot had refused to stay hidden and unnamed. She had attended every single hearing and faced her abusers to bring them to justice.
In the process, Gisele Pelicot became a global icon for woman victims of violent sexual crimes. Her statement that ‘shame needs to change sides’ has moved millions worldwide, encouraging women to come forward and seek justice.
Gisele Pelicot today received a standing ovation and applause from everyone gathered at the court premises in the historic proceedings.
