The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has banned several platforms that were streaming adult or soft-pornographic content through Apps. As per reports, multiple Apps like Ullu, MoodX, ALTT, NeonX VIP, Boomex, HitPrime etc have been banned.
The Ministry of I&B has issued a directive to Internet Service Providers to disable public access withing India to 25 websites and Apps hosting ‘prohibited material’.
The government has nited that the intermediaries are responsible for removing or disabling access to unlawful information under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
The MIB also invoked Rule 7 of the IT Rules, 2021, which stipulates that an intermediary failing to observe these rules will not be protected by Section 79(1) of the Act and will be liable for punishment under applicable laws, Storyboard18 reported.
WOW Entertainment, Hulchul App, Adda TV, Mojflix, Triflicks, HOTX VIP etc are also included in the ban list.
