In a sharp escalation of political confrontation, the co-convenor and leader of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), Ashutosh Ranka, hit a new low after launching a direct, personal attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking to the media, CJP’s spokesperson levelled serious allegations, claiming that PM Modi made a spectacle out of his late mother’s passing purely to make himself appear greater in the public eye. Following their release from preventive detention on Sunday, 11th October, CJP spokespersons Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das held a press conference in Delhi, lashing out at the central government and the Delhi Police.
During the press conference, Ranka attacked the Prime Minister’s late mother, saying, “He had also made an event of his mother’s death to make himself great.”
Cockroaches are again dragging PM Modi’s dead mother into their cheap politics. Ranka says that Dipke didn’t politicise his grandmother’s death like PM Modi did with his mother. They must have been busy licking Kejriwal’s feet back then, because PM Modi refused to turn his mother’s death into a political event. He didn’t let any union minister attend the last rites. He went alone in the morning and returned to his scheduled programmes in the evening

The comment came as the CJP leaders criticised the police action against them and other protesters ahead of the planned demonstration demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Targeting PM Modi, Ranka further alleged, “I have never seen a cowardly Prime Minister like Narendra Modi. In the last 72 hours, we have witnessed the naked dance of dictatorship.”
Das and Ranka alleged that Delhi Police had detained them without following due legal procedures, seized their mobile phones without providing documentation and denied them access to lawyers.
CJP’s July protest also saw abusive remarks about PM Modi and his mother
This is not the first time CJP gatherings have witnessed offensive personal attacks targeting the Prime Minister. During demonstrations organised by the party back in July, agitators at Jantar Mantar repeatedly targeted PM Modi and his late mother, hurling filthy and abusive slurs on camera.
The vulgarity led to a Zero FIR being registered at the Expressway police station in Noida against a 25-year-old woman, identified as Ruchika Singh, after a complaint was lodged by resident Smriti Singh. Singh faced charges under Sections 352, 353(1), and 356(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for using highly objectionable and abusive language against the Prime Minister and urging public mischief.
On 31st July, PM Modi responded to the controversy in a video message, saying that some young protesters had abused both him and his late mother. In an Instagram video message, he urged society to give “misguided children” an opportunity to learn from their mistakes rather than pursuing punitive action. PM Modi said, “The children are also ours… This is the time to hug them and show them the right path… I want to forgive them.”
CJP leaders compare police action to Indira Gandhi’s Emergency
The leaders also compared the restrictions imposed on the protests with the Emergency of 1975–77. A day earlier, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke had invoked the same period when he was detained by police after his flight landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday, 10th October.
A team of Delhi Police entered the plane in which Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke landed in Delhi on Saturday morning. Dipke went live on his instagram as cops entered the plane and detained him amid high in-flight drama ahead of the CJP’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar. Dipke posted the video showing Delhi Police team entering the flight as he alongwith other CJP members, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained from the flight itself.

“Even Indira Gandhi didn’t do this,” Dipke said in a video recorded during the detention. He and fellow CJP leaders had arrived in Delhi for the planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar, which had not been permitted. The three were released on Sunday after being produced before an Executive Magistrate, subject to a bond condition that they will not engage in breach of peace for one year.

OpIndia earlier reported historical accounts detailing what the Congress government actually did to torture opposition leaders and suppress civil liberties during the 1975 Emergency, contrasting it with standard law enforcement procedures.
The latest remarks by Ranka have added another layer to the political confrontation surrounding the CJP protests, with the dispute now extending beyond the allegations of electoral irregularities and police action to personal attacks on the Prime Minister and comparisons with one of the most controversial periods in India’s political history.
