‘I don’t know UK laws, I only follow Sharia law’: Pakistani national after being caught sexually harassing a 14-year-old girl in Britain, video goes viral

An undated video of a Pakistani national defending the harassment of a 14-year-old girl in Britain has gone viral on the internet amidst outrage over the government’s handling of the grooming gangs.

In the video, the man, identified as Muhammad Shahid Hussain, admits to being from Pakistan, stating that it is not a crime in his country to marry a 14-year-old girl. To defend himself, he says he is new in the United Kingdom and was not aware of the laws governing the country. It could be overheard in the video that Hussain was accused of sending lewd messages to a minor girl, including asking her to have sex with him and marry him.

“I am new to this country, I am not aware of the laws here,” the Pakistani national says when asked about lewd WhatsApp messages he had sent to a 14-year-old girl. “In Muslim countries, one can marry 14-year-old girls. There is a country’s law and then there is Sharia which overrides those laws. I follow Sharia law.”

The video has surfaced online as the United Kingdom grapples with the outrage over its historically lax conduct in reining Pakistani Grooming Gangs operating with impunity on its soil. The issue intensified after American tech billionaire Elon Musk took cognisance and slammed the British government for failing to act in cases of child sexual abuse by Pakistani grooming gangs, particularly referring to the infamous Rotherham scandal.
