The days-long uncertainty surrounding the condition of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan eased on Tuesday after his sister, Uzma Khanum, was finally allowed to meet him inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. Speaking to reporters after the brief interaction, she confirmed that Imran Khan is alive but alleged that he is being subjected to “severe mental torture”.
Uzma Khanum met the jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman on 2 December 2025, following mounting pressure from party leaders and supporters who had expressed alarm over the government’s silence regarding his health and treatment. The meeting lasted barely 20 minutes, but it was enough for her to raise serious concerns over the conditions in which her brother is being held.
Visibly disturbed, Uzma claimed that Imran Khan appeared physically weakened and mentally distressed. She accused the authorities of isolating him and denying him basic rights, warning that the situation could deteriorate if immediate steps are not taken to ensure transparency and humane treatment.
“Imran Khan’s health is absolutely fine. He is angry. He said that they are subjecting him to mental torture, and that Asim Munir is responsible for all of this,” Uzma said, referring to Pakistan’s Army Chief.
The government has not yet responded to her allegations. Meanwhile, PTI leaders have renewed their demand for an independent medical evaluation and regular access to legal and family representatives.
The brief meeting has momentarily resolved the mystery around Imran Khan’s status, but it has opened a new round of political tensions, with his supporters calling the alleged mistreatment another attempt to silence Pakistan’s most prominent opposition figure.
