India and Seychelles sign MoU to introduce India’s UPI system in the island nation during PM Modi’s visit

During Prime Minister Modi’s ongoing three-day visit to Seychelles, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between India and Seychelles to introduce India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in the island nation. Once the system becomes operational, digital payments in the country will be possible through UPI, making online financial transactions easier.

PM Modi expressed pleasure over the signing of the MoU between India and Seychelles. “I am happy that an MoU has been signed between India and Seychelles for UPI,” the Prime Minister said.

“We believe that Digital Technology is an effective medium to bridge the distance between the two countries. We will share India’s successful experience in Digital Public Infrastructure with Seychelles. And I am pleased that today an MOU is being signed to implement UPI in Seychelles,” he added.

“Today, we discussed making our economic cooperation more resilient and future-ready. We will continue to explore new opportunities for the industries of both our countries. Work will also be done to enhance connectivity between India and Seychelles,” PM Modi stated.

Another highlight of PM Modi’s visit to the country is the conferment of Seychelles’ ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ award on him. He expressed gratitude for being conferred the honour.

Describing his visit to Seychelles as historic, PM Modi pointed out that it coincides with two major milestones: Seychelles completing 50 years of independence and the two countries marking five decades of diplomatic ties. “I am visiting Seychelles at a historic moment, as the country marks 50 years of independence, and we celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between Bharat and Seychelles. Over these five decades, we have transformed friendship into trust, trust into cooperation, and cooperation into people’s welfare,” he said.
