India and the United States have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in cybercrime investigations. This agreement is expected to promote greater partnership and knowledge sharing between agencies from both nations, focusing on strengthening their capabilities to combat cyber threats.
The MoU was signed by Vinay Kwatra, India’s ambassador to the US, and Kristie Canegallo, the acting deputy secretary of US Homeland Security Investigations.
A statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday said the MoU will allow agencies from both countries to intensify cooperation and training in the use of cyber threat intelligence and digital forensics for criminal investigations.
“From India, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is responsible for the execution of the MoU. From the US side, it is the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and its constituent agencies the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Homeland Security Investigations Cyber Crimes Center (C3),” the press release said.
The Ministry highlighted that cybercrimes are closely linked to shared security challenges faced by both countries, such as terrorism, violent extremism, terror financing, organized crime, human trafficking, illegal migration, drug trafficking, money laundering, and transportation security.
