Indian Railways has decided to run several special trains in the coming few days to meet huge passenger demand caused by widespread cancellation of IndiGo flights, and also to meet additional winter demands. The Ministry of Railways said on Saturday that 89 special train services will run across multiple zones in the next three days, starting today.
These 89 special trains will undertake over 100 trips. The railways said that this will help support smooth travel and ensure adequate connectivity amid rising demand for rail travel.
Central Railway will operate 14 Special Trains Services to cater to increased passenger demand. This will include trains on Pune–Bengaluru, Pune-Delhi, Mumbai-Goa, Mumbai-Delhi, Lucknow-Mumbai, Nagpur-Mumbai, Gorakhpur-Mumbai and Bilaspur-Mumbai routes.
South Eastern Railway will run special trains on Howrah-Bengaluru, Howrah-Mumbai, Hyderabad-Howrah routes. Similarly, South Central Railway is running three special trains from Hyderabad to Howrah, Secunderabad to Chennai, and Hyderabad to Mumbai. Eastern Railway will operate special train services between Howrah, Sealdah and major destinations across the country, including Delhi and Mumbai.
Western Railway will operate seven special trains to meet the increased travel demand, including Mumbai-Bhiwani and Mumbai- Shakur Basti trains.
Special trains will also run on Gorakhpur-Delhi, Patna-Delhi, Darbhanga-Delhi, Hisar-Khadki, Durgapura-Mumbai, Prayagraj-Delhi, Udhampur-Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram-Delhi, Chalipalli-Jalimar, and Durg-Delhi routes.
