A young man in Indore, troubled by his wife and in-laws, took his own life. In his suicide note, he blamed his wife, mother-in-law, and both of his wife’s sisters for his death. He addressed one letter to his mother and another to unmarried young men. The most notable aspect of the case is that the man had already divorced his wife, yet she continued to harass him. Tormented by her mental abuse, he hanged himself. The incident took place in the Banganga police station area of Indore, where police are actively investigating.
The young man, identified as Nitin Padiyar, hanged himself at home due to ongoing conflicts with his wife. Before his death, he left a suicide note appealing to the Indian government for changes in the law.
In the note, Nitin mentioned that he took this extreme step due to the harassment he faced from his wife, Varsha Sharma, his mother-in-law, Sita Sharma, and his sister-in-law, Meenakshi. He directly blamed them for his suffering and ultimate death.
“My wife Harsha Sharma, her sisters Meenakshi & Varsha and mother-in-law Sita Sharma are directly responsible for my death. I am divorced but they’re still torturing me,” Nitin wrote in his suicide note before taking the drastic step.
Nitin also addressed unmarried men in his note, warning them about the risks of marriage. He advised them either to avoid marriage altogether or to enter into a legal agreement before marrying. He criticized the current legal system, stating that the laws favour women and are often misused. He warned that unless reforms are made, many families will continue to suffer.
Meanwhile, police have begun their investigation into the case.
Notably, the incident took place weeks after Atul Subhash, a Bengaluru techie, committed suicide citing harassment from his wife and in-laws. Subhash shared a poignant video of himself blaming his wife and her family for pushing him to the precipice of taking such an extreme decision, which went viral following his death.
