Israel has provided new intelligence to the United States, revealing an Iranian plan to kill President Donald Trump, reported The Wall Street Journal on 9th July (Thursday). The critical input was supplied this week. According to a source, Israel’s warning was fresh and focused on a particular plot, but the US had been receiving a regular stream of intelligence in recent weeks regarding potential attempts to target Trump, reported CNN.
Other US officials speculated that the Israeli evaluation might be an attempt to influence his stance as he considers stepping up US military intervention against Iran.
“They want to take out the US leader, me. I’m on whatever list. I saw this morning I’m on every single one of their lists. And so far, I guess I’ve been a bit lucky, but maybe that doesn’t last very long. These are evil, sick people. And we have to root out that cancer. That cancer. You know what you do? You’ve got to cut out cancer early. And that’s the way I feel,” Trump expressed on 8th July.
He later asserted to have recently discovered new details that listed him as Iran’s top target for assassination, but without clarifying whether he was alluding to the latest development. According to two insiders, the intelligence community is keeping tabs on a number of actors who have talked about strikes but haven’t carried them out.
A different source stated that US intelligence agencies have been worried that Iran might go after multiple prominent officials, both present and retired. However, the communication from Israeli is seen as part of a larger attempt to sway Trump’s Iran-related decisions. According to the source, several members of the intelligence establishment are consistently dubious of reports provided by the Jewish state.
Despite the restart of fighting between the two countries, another US official stated that diplomatic attempts with Iran continue to transpire behind the scenes. A nuclear agreement between the two sides is hoped to be reached by mid-August. US Officials conveyed that there had been plans for possible attacks, if necessary, but they were choosing diplomacy over action.
On Thursday, personnel loaded fighter jets with weapons on the USS Abraham Lincoln and pilots practiced just in case they were called upon to conduct air assaults. Dan Keeler, the commanding officer of the aircraft carrier, informed the thousands of crew men that the situation was escalating.
The conflict between Washington and Tehran could intensify following the Israeli tip-off. For years, Iran has publicly threatened to take revenge on Trump for the loss of Qasem Soleimani, one of its top generals who was eliminated during the president’s first term.
Notably, he already declared that memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two countries was already over. “I think it’s over. I don’t want to deal with them anymore, they’re scum, they’re led by sick people and they’re vicious, violent people.” He referred to the Islamic regime as “cuckoo” and accused it of violating the interim deal inked last month, remarking that they “lie” and “cheat.”
