A step towards self-reliance and innovation
JMI Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif said that both projects reflect the university’s commitment to national development and innovation. “These two initiatives will play a crucial role in developing local talent in the areas of electric vehicles and cybersecurity. They will expose our students and professionals to advanced technologies and allow JMI to contribute meaningfully at the national level,” he said, thanking the Ministry of Minority Affairs for the financial support.
The university’s registrar, Prof. Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi, also praised the development, saying the new labs would become strong learning and training platforms. “These facilities will give students and researchers access to advanced tools and hands-on experience, helping them face real-world challenges,” he added, congratulating the project teams.
Focus areas of the new research labs
Explaining the goals of the EV Lab, Prof. Haque said that it would focus on creating a top-class research and training facility, setting up a working EV charging station on campus, and launching a skill development centre to train future professionals in line with NITI Aayog’s 2030 EV policy.
Meanwhile, Dr Naqvi said the Cybersecurity Lab would support the government’s National Cybersecurity Strategy by preparing a skilled workforce capable of protecting India’s digital systems and infrastructure.
Both professors thanked the university administration for its support and said the initiative would help Jamia Millia Islamia emerge as a centre of innovation, research, and skill development in two of the country’s fastest-growing technology fields.
