Karnataka: 45-year-old anaesthesiologist found dead at home, his 8-year-old son found stabbed as his ophthalmologist wife scrolled through her phone

In a horrifying incident, a 45-year-old anaesthesiologist and his 8-year-old were found stabbed inside his apartment in Karnataka’s Dharwad on Wednesday night (15th July). The anaesthesiologist, identified as Dr Kiran Honannavar, was dead while his son was still breathing when the police arrived. The police rushed the son to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment and is said to be out of danger.

Shockingly, the police found Dr Honannavar’s wife, Dr Priyanka, an ophthalmologist, lying on a bed, scrolling through her phone, as her son and husband lay in a pool of blood in the house. She was taken into custody by the police for questioning.

As per reports, a team of police led by Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N Shashikumar arrived at the scene after receiving information about the incident. Upon entering the apartment, the police found blood splattered across the apartment. According to police, Dr Honannavar, who worked at Chirayu Hospital, and his son were found lying in different rooms.

Speaking about the incident, Commissioner N Shashikumar said that the preliminary investigation indicates that no outsider entered the apartment, which is located in a highly secured residential complex. Only three people, the husband, the wife and the child were inside the apartment.

It is reported that Dr Honannavar’s friends and relatives had been trying to contact him since Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, his wife, Priyanka, answered the phone and initially said that he was resting and later said that he was on duty. In the evening, his family members came to their house after they could not reach Dr Honannavar. However, they witnessed horrifying visuals inside the apartment as Dr Honannavar and his son were lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab injuries.

Dr Honannavar’s relatives have alleged that his wife killed him and attempted to kill the child. However, the police have not confirmed her involvement in the incident and are investigating to establish the chain of events. “We will conduct a detailed investigation to determine what exactly happened, whom she spoke to, what she told them, and the sequence of events inside the apartment,” the Commissioner said. A case has been registered at the Suburban Police Station.
