Kerala woman booked for sexually assaulting 16-year-old girl, accused already facing three other POCSO cases

A 25-year-old woman named Sneha Merlin has been booked by the Kerala police for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl. The accused belongs to Kannur, but the police stated that the incident took place a few months ago at the victim’s home in Kasaragod.

The teenager didn’t tell anyone about the assault initially. However, the matter finally came to light during a recent counselling session. Once her parents found out what had happened, they immediately lodged a police complaint against Merlin, who happens to be a close friend of the girl’s mother.

According to the police, Merlin was a regular visitor to the family’s house because of her friendship with the mother. It was during one of these routine visits that she assaulted the minor. It was revealed that the woman had lured the girl with expensive gifts, including a gold bracelet.

Following the complaint, the police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and officials confirmed that “her arrest would be recorded soon.”

This is not the first time Merlin has faced such severe charges. The police revealed that she is already a prime accused in three other POCSO cases registered at the Taliparamba police station. One of those cases involves the sexual assault of a minor girl back in March 2025. The other two victims in those previous cases were minor boys, including the brother of the girl from the Taliparamba case.

For her past crimes, investigators have charged her under Sections 75 and 332 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for sexual harassment and house trespass. They have also invoked strict POCSO sections, including Section 5(l) for penetrative sexual assault and Section 9(l) for aggravated sexual assault.

The police added that Merlin has a history of other criminal activities as well, including assaulting a CPI leader with her helmet, and a deeper investigation into her background is currently underway while they process the latest complaint.
