The Chandrapur district administration in Maharashtra has designated Mangli village and its surrounding areas within a 10km radius as an ‘alert zone’ to curb the spread of bird flu, official sources reported on Tuesday.
On Monday, the district collector and chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) issued an order detailing preventive measures against the outbreak. Following the death of poultry birds in Mangli village under Brahmapuri tehsil on January 25, the Animal Husbandry Department collected samples and sent them for testing at the State Level.
The test results confirmed the presence of bird flu (avian influenza H5N1). In response, the Chandrapur collector and DDMA chairman declared Mangli village and its surrounding 10km area as an ‘alert zone’ to contain the spread of the virus.
In the designated zone, the Poultry Bird Rapid Response Team will immediately cull the infected birds in Mangli, Gevarlachak, and Junonatoli using scientific methods to contain the spread of the infection.
