On Monday (29th June), a sessions court in Pune handed the death penalty to a man named Bhimrao Kamble for the rape and murder of a 3.5-year-old girl.
According to reports, the Special Judge SR Salunkhe ruled that the case fell under the rarest of the rare category. Bhimrao was convicted last week by a special POCSO court.
The court had emphasised the inhuman nature of the crime and that the prosecution was successful in establishing ” an unbroken chain of circumstantial and forensic evidence.’

The prosecution has argued that the case falls within the “rarest of rare” category and warrants capital punishment, citing the extreme police brutality and inhuman nature of the crime.
In its verdict, the court noted, “The accused showed no signs of repentance or potential for reformation. The only appropriate sentence is death.”
As per reports, the 65-year-old man had lured the child by promising snacks and a newborn calf. He took her to a shed and then raped and murdered her. The victim was visiting her grandmother’s house in Nasrapur at the time. The incident occurred on 1st May 2026.
The heinous nature of the crime had sparked massive protests. The case was sent to a fast-track trial. The court accepted the DNA evidence, CCTV footage, medical reports etc to establish the guilt of the accused.
The Pune court accepted the prosecution’s CCTV footage, DNA evidence, medical findings, potency test, and mental fitness assessment as properly proved.
Bhimrao Kamble was previously involved in crimes against an animal, a 62-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl.
