On Wednesday, 16th September, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra claimed that eggs were thrown at her when she visited her constituency, Krishnanagar, in West Bengal. Sharing a video on X, Moitra alleged that BJP supporters pelted eggs at her during her visit for a meeting with party workers.
Moitra also took a sarcastic dig at the Supreme Court over remarks made by a bench during an earlier hearing. The judges had questioned why she was afraid of eggs when freedom fighters had faced bullets. Referring to those observations, the TMC MP said she faced the attack in the same way freedom fighters faced bullets.
“Big shout out to Hon’ble Justice Dipankar Datta. MiLord. BJP workers, with their help, pelted eggs at me. True to your advice, I faced them as a freedom fighter faced bullets,” Moitra said.

She also alleged that she had informed the West Bengal Police about her visit, but eggs were still thrown at her. Moitra has previously accused the police of not taking sufficient action when she reports such incidents.
Why did Mahua Moitra approach the Supreme Court?
The latest incident comes weeks after Moitra approached the Supreme Court seeking permission to join police questioning through video conferencing in a case linked to hate speech.
During the hearing last month, a bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and Sheel Nagu questioned her concerns about appearing before investigators in person. The bench referred to the possibility of eggs being thrown at her and said that entering politics meant facing such situations.
“You are a member of Parliament? Having taken the plunge into politics, you fear eggs? When our freedom fighters have taken bullets on their chest? These are applications that should not come before this court at all,” the bench had remarked.
The Supreme Court declined to interfere with the Calcutta High Court’s direction that Moitra appear before the investigating officer in person. The hearing had taken place in connection with a case concerning her alleged provocative social media posts.
Wednesday’s incident is not the first time Moitra has alleged that eggs were thrown during her political activities in West Bengal this year. In July, she claimed that a group of people hurled eggs at a venue where she was meeting TMC workers in the state. She had blamed BJP workers for the incident at that time as well.
Moitra has repeatedly alleged that the police have failed to act despite being informed about such incidents. The latest allegation has once again brought the political confrontation between TMC and BJP supporters in Krishnanagar into focus.
