Malegaon: Mohsin sells beef under national flag on Republic Day, booked for violating orders of meat ban

A complaint has been filed at Pawarwadi Police Station in Malegaon district of Maharashtra against one Mohsin for allegedly selling ‘beef’ on the streets under the Indian National Flag on 26th January. The complaint has been filed by Manish Dhilare, a senior officer at Malegaon Mahanagarpalika who said that the office had issued a notice on 22nd January banning the sale of any type of meat on 26th January, citing the occasion of Republic Day.

Dhilare said the same notice was made public through newspapers, media, and social media. Despite this, the accused violated the notice and insulted the Indian National Flag by selling beef right below it at around 11 am, Dhilare said. The incident came to the notice after the photograph of Mohsin selling beef was made viral on the district WhatsApp group. The authorities righty reached the spot to confirm that the accused selling meat and violating the government orders was Mohsin.

The accused has been charged under sections 2 of Bharatiya Dwaj Sanhita, 2002; 223 of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023 and sections 105 and 117 of Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. It is crucial to note that the state of Maharashtra banned beef in March 2024 saying that anyone found selling beef or eating it could be jailed for five years and fined Rs. 10,000.
