‘Remember what we have done for you’: Mamata Banerjee threatens CEO of hospital where Abhishek Banerjee was treated after being beaten by locals, audio clip goes viral

An audio clip of Trinamool Congress chief and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee threatening the CEO of a leading Kolkata hospital is going viral on social media. The leaked recording surfaced just a day after her nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee was up and pelted with eggs and stones by irate locals in Sonarpur South area of South 24 Parganas on Saturday, 30th May, and later admitted to Belle Vue Hospital for treatment.

In the viral audio clip, Mamata Banerjee is heard angrily speaking to Belle Vue Hospital CEO Pradip Tandon. She accuses him of wrongdoing and warns him about future consequences.

“Sorry, Mr Tandon, you have done a wrong thing,” Mamata is heard saying in the clip.

She further says, “Please remember what help we have done for you. God will not excuse you. You are misleading. You should be ashamed. Everybody will remember your arrogance. You are running the hospital, and the BJP is in power. Tomorrow, if the central government is not there, we will take care of it.”

The audio clip has now triggered sharp political reactions, with opposition leaders accusing the TMC supremo of threatening a private hospital.

Abhishek Banerjee pelted with eggs in Sonarpur

The controversy comes after Abhishek Banerjee was attacked during his visit to Sonarpur near Kolkata. The TMC national general secretary had gone there to visit families of two slain or attacked TMC workers, first Sanju Karmakar’s family in Sonarpur South and later Biswajit Pattanayak’s family in Beleghata, as part of a statewide outreach programme to boost the morale of party cadres claiming to be victims of targeted attacks.

According to reports, locals gathered at the spot and started throwing stones and eggs at Abhishek Banerjee while shouting “chor, chor” slogans. Visuals from the scene showed chaos as security personnel and TMC workers surrounded him and tried to escort him safely away from the crowd.

Abhishek was seen wearing a police-issued cricket helmet for protection while leaving the area. His shirt was also reportedly torn during the incident, showing how tense the situation had become.

After the attack, Abhishek blamed BJP workers for the violence.

“It’s all BJP-sponsored. Look what they have done. This is their example of democracy. It hasn’t even been a month, and the police are nowhere to be seen,” he told reporters.

He also alleged that the attackers wanted to kill him.

Mamata pressure on the hospital

Following the incident, Abhishek was first taken to Apollo Hospital in Kolkata before later being shifted to Belle Vue Hospital.

Soon after, Mamata Banerjee held a press conference where she alleged that BJP leaders and even a senior police officer were pressuring the hospital to discharge Abhishek despite his condition remaining serious.

Mamata alleged that Abhishek had developed blood clots after the attack and was admitted to the Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU). She said several medical tests, including a 3D CT scan, ultrasonography and thoracic examinations, were conducted.

She also questioned why doctors would place him in the ITU if his injuries were not serious.

According to Mamata, Apollo Hospital had earlier suggested that Abhishek could recover at home, but she remained worried about his health and decided to move him to Belle Vue Hospital for further treatment.
