Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abesh Banerjee directly involved in RG Kar case, hospital’s bathroom was demolished after he washed blood stains in it: Alleges parents of the victim

A new twist has emerged in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case from August 2024. The parents of the victim have now levelled serious allegations against Abesh Banerjee, nephew of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, demanding that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summon and question him in connection with the case. Abesh Banerjee is a doctor.

The victim’s mother and BJP MLA from Panihati, Ratna Debnath, claimed that Abesh Banerjee’s mobile phone tower location was traced to the RG Kar hospital premises around the time of the incident on the night of August 9, 2024. She questioned why the agency has not called him for interrogation, especially when it has recently questioned others linked to the case, including those connected with the cremation process.

She said that according to the postmortem report, her daughter died between 12 midnight and 6 am. Therefore, the role of every person involved in the incident or present near the spot should be investigated in the investigation. She said on Thursday that the CBI has already summoned former Panihati MLA Nirmal Ghosh and Panihati Municipality Chairman Somnath Dey, and therefore Adesh Banerjee also should be questioned.

Ratna Debnath, said, “Today Nirmal Ghosh was called by the CBI, along with Somnath Dey, Chairman of Panihati Municipality. According to the postmortem report, my daughter died between 12 pm and 6 am. She was murdered. Why will they not integrate the custodian? Abesh Banerjee, son of Mamata Banerjee’s brother Samir (Kartik) Banerjee, whose tower location was also found there. They should also call him to investigate.” The victim’s mother further alleged that Abesh was present at the spot to hide evidence in the case.

She further added that as per the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) report, the young doctor was not murdered in the hospital’s seminar room. She said that her daughter was actually murdered in the PGT room, where students used to rest. Her frozen body was then removed from there and dumped in front of the seminar room. She said that the body was moved to cover up the whole matter and to fabricate evidence.

She said that without the direct intervention of the Chief Minister and Health Minister Mamata Banerjee, such a manipulation of the crime scene was not possible. Ratna Debnath added that Mamata Banerjee had deputed Adesh Banerjee to execute the conspiracy.

Ratna Debnath’s husband Shekhar Ranjan Debnath repeated the allegations on Friday, alleging that Abesh is directly involved in the murder of his daughter. He claimed that Abesh Banerjee had taken a shower in the bathroom of the hospital on that night because there were blood splashes on his body. He said that it was the same bathroom that was demolished immediately after the crime.

Notably, a rest room for doctors and a staff toilet at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital were ordered to be demolished by then principal Sandip Ghosh a day after the crime. The demolished rooms were situated diagonally across the seminar hall where the on-duty deceased doctor’s body was found. The order to ‘renovate’ that part of the hospital a day after the crime has come into scrutiny.

Shekhar Ranjan Debnath also claimed that Mamata Banerjee was in direct contact with former Kolkata Police commissioner Vineet Goyal during the whole night. He further stated that a large number of people entered the crime scene in the seminar room of the medical college after the crime was discovered. He said that as per CBI report, around two thousand footprints were found in the room during the probe.

Alleging that Abesh Banerjee was “directly involved” in the crime, Shekhar Ranjan Debnath hoped that CBI will probe every angle in the case and catch everyone involved in the case.

The RG Kar case, involving the rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate doctor inside the state-run hospital, had triggered massive protests across the country in 2024. While prime accused Sanjay Roy was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, the victim’s family has consistently maintained that the probe was incomplete and that a larger conspiracy and cover-up took place under the previous Trinamool Congress government.

Ratna Debnath, who has turned her personal tragedy into a political battle by contesting and winning on a BJP ticket, has repeatedly accused senior leaders and officials of shielding the guilty. She has described Mamata Banerjee as the “head of criminals” and demanded thorough investigation into all angles.
