MEA issues advisory for Indians undertaking Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, 52 pilgrims stranded in Nepal due to missing documents

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has asked Indian citizens planning to visit Kailash Mansarovar through private tour operators not to leave India until they have all the required travel documents. The advisory comes after several pilgrims were stranded in Nepal because they did not have the entry permit and Chinese visa needed to continue the journey.

Pilgrims stranded due to missing documents

According to the MEA, it has received several requests for help from Indian citizens who are stuck in Nepal after starting the pilgrimage without the necessary documents. The ministry said travelling with the hope of getting permits later can lead to such situations and may leave pilgrims stranded during the journey.

Around 52 Indian pilgrims are currently stranded in Kathmandu and are seeking assistance to continue their onward journey safely.

Verify tour operators before booking

The MEA has also advised pilgrims to carefully check whether their tour operator is properly registered and authorised before booking the trip. It said travellers should make sure all required permits and visas are in place before starting the yatra to avoid unnecessary problems.

The advisory comes even as the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 resumed through the Nathu La Pass route, with the first batch of pilgrims crossing into China on the 20th of June.
