Madhya Pradesh CM’s office refutes Indian Express report on Ujjain land acquisitions, says majority of land purchases before he got CM’s post, and all properties declared

A controversy erupted in Madhya Pradesh after an Indian Express report claimed that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s family and their real estate firms have spent Rs 45 crore on at least 137 plots totalling 168 acres in Ujjain in areas that stand to gain the most from this infrastructural initiative. The IE report said that around 12 acres of the property were transferred within the Yadav family.

Now, sources in Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s office has issued a detailed clarification, saying that the Indian Express report pushed a confusing narrative and linked CM Yadav and his family to the independent business activities and land transactions undertaken by his relatives.

The CMO sources have stated that there has been no increase in the agricultural landholding of Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav. In November 2023, the total agricultural land owned and possessed by him was 17.967 acres; as of June 2026, it remains 17.967 acres. This fact has already been declared in his election affidavits.

The Indian Express report claimed that the Khatauni (ownership) records showed that Yadav’s wife Seema, son Vaibhav’s wife Shalini Yadav, brothers Nandlal and Narayan, Narayan’s wife Rekha, their son Abhay and first cousins Govind and Nilesh Yadav bought these plots either directly or through one of the family’s four real estate businesses.

IE mentioned that the majority of these plots are either near recently announced road projects in and around Ujjain or in locations designated in the Ujjain Master Plan 2035 for a shift in land utilisation from agriculture to residential or commercial. Since December 2023, Yadav’s family has made transactions that have added to their already existing land bank.

Addressing these claims, the clarification issued by CM Yadav’s office states that the agricultural landholding of CM Yadav’s wife, Seema Yadav, remains unchanged. In November 2023, she held 12.287 acres of agricultural land, and in June 2026, she held 12.292 acres. The majority of this land was purchased between 2008 and 2019, well before Dr Mohan Yadav assumed the office of Chief Minister.

Regarding the Indian Express report’s claims about Srishti Vinayak Devcon Private Limited, the statement by CMO sources state that this company was incorporated in 2008 for agricultural purposes. Dr Mohan Yadav and Smt. Seema Yadav had stepped down as a director of the company in 2017 and relinquished all their shares by March 2026. The company held 68.43 acres of land in November 2023, which had decreased to 65.69 acres by June 2026. 4. Land purchased by his son, Vaibhav Yadav, was acquired before he became Chief Minister.

The 16.38 acres of agricultural land were purchased in the Sanwarkhedi village between 2019 and March 2023. This purchase was made prior to his assuming the office of Chief Minister and before the implementation of the Ujjain Master Plan-2035, adding that this plan itself was in effect already before Mohan Yadav assumed office as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister.

“This Master Plan has been effective since May 2023, whereas Dr Mohan Yadav assumed the office of Chief Minister on December 13, 2023. Therefore, the allegation that he specifically influenced road, highway, or development projects after becoming Chief Minister is baseless. Thus, the allegation of ‘conflict of interest’ is baseless,” it said.

Regarding the land purchased by CM Yadav’s daughter-in-law, Shalini Yadav, it has been stated that the land she bought is agricultural land located outside the Master Plan area. The approximately 10 acres of land purchased in village Gangedi in 2025 is agricultural land and does not fall within a developed or commercial zone.

It has also been emphasised that CM Yadav’s relatives are independent entities that conduct their own businesses and economic activities. “Linking any of their private transactions or business dealings to the Chief Minister is factually incorrect,” the clarification states.

“It is evident from available records and public facts that the majority of the land owned by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, his wife, and his family was acquired prior to his becoming Chief Minister. An attempt has been made to create confusion by taking the facts presented in the news report out of context and linking them with the independent activities of relatives,” it added.
