On Tuesday (24th December), a 50-year-old Hindu woman was gang-raped and poisoned in Narail Sadar upazila in the Khulna Division of Bangladesh.
The accused were identified as Rajibul and his accomplices. The victim was a Union Parishad (UP) member of a reserved ward in Narail Sadar Upazila.
Rajibul called the woman on Tuesday morning and asked her to return the money that she owed to him. When the victim went to a UP member’s house to arrange for the money, she was gang-raped by Rajibul and his aides.
The accused demanded 2 lakh Taka (~₹1.42 lakhs) from the Hindu woman as ransom. When she vowed to inform everyone about their heinous crime, they poured poison into her mouth.
The victim returned home but did not narrate her ordeal to her family. However, she soon fell ill. Her condition deteriorated and she was admitted to the Jessore General Hospital on Wednesday (25th December) morning.
The woman informed her son about the rape committed by Rajibul and his aides. She passed away on Thursday (26th December) while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Following an autopsy, the body of the deceased Hindu woman was sent to her village in Narail Sadar upazila on Friday (27th December) evening.
The victim’s son said, “My mother died in my arms while I was describing what happened to her.” He has demanded strict action against Rajibul and other gang rapists.
The accused have been absconding since the incident. Narail Sadar Police Station OC Mohammed Sajedul Islam has assured to take action but no arrests have been made so far.
Resident Medical Officer of Jessore General Hospital Bazlur Rashid informed, “There were rape wounds. Evidence has also been collected. We also found poison in the woman’s stomach. An autopsy has been conducted.”
