8 people injured in a shooting incident in New York City on the US Independence Day holiday, investigation underway

In a disturbing development in New York, United States, at least 8 people were shot and injured in a shooting incident that happened late on Saturday (4th July). The injured include four children. The incident happened around 10:35 p.m. at West 31st Street near Surf Ave in the Coney Island neighbourhood of New York City on ‌the US Independence Day holiday.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) received a 911 call reporting multiple people being shot at West 31st Street. After arriving at the scene, the police found 8 people with gunshot injuries. The injured were taken to different hospitals for treatment. A 21-year-old woman among the injured is said to be in critical condition, while the remaining 7 are stable. The injured children are aged 6, 7, 12 and 14.

An investigation is underway in connection with the incident. No arrests have been made so far.
