On 8th March, a Hindu doctor, Dr Stuti Sonawane, died by suicide in the Antop Hill area of Mumbai. The Police have arrested her Muslim boyfriend, Faizul Mohammad Khan, after recovering a six-page suicide note from her room. According to investigators, the note explains the mental stress and pressure she faced during the relationship.
A relationship that began happily but later turned stressful
Police said Stuti wrote in her note that she met Faizul through an online app. In the beginning, they had many happy moments together. She mentioned that Faizul had even celebrated her birthday at the Taj Hotel. But after some time, his behaviour started changing.
Stuti wrote that Faizul became very suspicious of her and often used abusive language during arguments. The constant doubt and harsh words deeply affected her mental health.
The note also mentioned a disturbing statement Faizul used to repeat. According to Stuti, he often threatened her by saying, “You’ll end up in the fridge one day.” She had earlier shared these concerns with her friends.
Family demands strict action
Stuti’s father, Bajrang Sonawane, said the family discovered her body on the morning of 9th March after they broke the door of Stuti’s room. The incident has devastated the family.
Speaking to the press, Stuti’s father stated that “what has happened to my daughter should not happen to any other girl” and demanded strict punishment for those responsible.
The police stated that the accused, Faizul Mohammad Khan, works as an insurance broker and has also studied law. Officers said they are examining the suicide note and other evidence to understand the circumstances that led to the incident.
