US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh and sweeping threat against Iran, warning that its core energy infrastructure would be “obliterated” if ongoing negotiations fail to yield a deal soon.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the United States would target Iran’s electric generating plants, oil wells, and the strategic Kharg Island if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately reopened for global trade.

Even as he escalated rhetoric, Trump claimed that “serious discussions” were underway with what he described as a “new and more reasonable” Iranian regime.
However, Tehran has denied any direct talks with Washington, stating that communication has been limited to indirect exchanges through intermediaries, with countries such as Pakistan, Türkiye, and Egypt attempting to broker a breakthrough.
The warning comes amid heightened regional tensions following joint US-Israeli airstrikes launched on February 28, which reportedly killed over 1,300 people, including senior Iranian leadership figures. Iran has since retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and US-linked assets across the region, further escalating instability and raising concerns over global energy supply disruptions tied to the Strait of Hormuz.
