India–Finland partnership
President Alexander Stubb is currently on a state visit to India. He arrived in the national capital on Wednesday (4 March 2026) along with a high-level delegation that included ministers, senior officials, and business leaders, where he received a formal welcome.
During the joint press interaction, Prime Minister Modi said that Finland is an important partner for India in the Nordic region, and both countries are working to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors. He announced that India and Finland have signed a comprehensive Migration and Mobility Agreement aimed at strengthening linkages between the innovation ecosystems of the two nations.
The Prime Minister noted that the agreement would create more opportunities for talent and students. He also highlighted that Finland is increasingly becoming a preferred destination for Indian students and professionals interested in studying and working in advanced research and technology sectors.
Modi further stated that the two countries would expand cooperation in education and research. Both sides agreed to enhance partnerships in areas such as teacher training, school-to-school collaboration, and research related to the future of education. Describing Finland as a global example in the field of education, the Prime Minister said cooperation would be expanded in human resource development from the school level to industry. Joint research initiatives and startup collaboration will also be strengthened.
The leaders also discussed cooperation in environmental and scientific fields. The Prime Minister said India and Finland are expanding their partnership in Arctic and polar research, as both countries share common interests in climate studies and advanced scientific exploration.
The state visit aims to further consolidate bilateral relations between India and Finland while expanding collaboration in innovation, education, research, and business partnerships.
