PM Narendra Modi conferred the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ by Seychelles, the country’s highest award for leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ award, Seychelles’ highest distinction for leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development. The honour was presented to him during his ongoing three-day state visit to the island nation.

The award recognises PM Modi’s long-standing commitment to sustainable growth, his green vision and his efforts towards climate action and responsible use of ocean resources. It comes as Seychelles celebrates the Golden Jubilee of its National Day, marking 50 years of independence, with the Prime Minister attending the celebrations as the Guest of Honour at the invitation of President Dr Patrick Herminie.

The official Presidential Citation highlights PM Modi’s steadfast commitment to sustainable development, climate resilience, the Blue Economy and international cooperation. It particularly notes his support for the aspirations of Small Island Developing States and praises his contributions to advancing initiatives that promote environmental stewardship, sustainable economic growth, innovation and the responsible management of ocean resources. The citation also underscores the deepening bonds of friendship, mutual respect and shared commitment to peace and prosperity between Seychelles and India.

This latest recognition adds to a series of global honours received by PM Modi for his work on climate action and green growth. Last month, in May 2026, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) presented him with the Agricola Medal for strengthening food security, transforming agriculture and promoting sustainable farming. In 2018, he was awarded the Seoul Peace Prize for advancing sustainable economic growth, global cooperation and inclusive development, and the United Nations conferred upon him the prestigious Champions of the Earth Award.

During the visit, which runs from June 27 to 29, 2026, PM Modi is holding discussions to further strengthen bilateral ties, with particular focus on maritime security and cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region under India’s Vision SAGAR. PM Modi yesterday handed over state-of-the-art ‘Made in India’ Fast Patrol Vessel PS Lespwar, six Force ambulances, ten utility vehicles and five laser radial boats to President Dr Patrick Herminie in a special gesture that highlights the close and growing strategic ties between the two countries.

A contingent of Indian defence forces, along with two Indian Navy ships, is participating in the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
