On Saturday (25th January), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested two terrorists, who are wanted in the murder of PMK leader and Hindu activist Ramalingam.
Identified as Abdul Majeeth and Shahul Hameed, the terrorists were associated with the banned Islamist outfit Popular Front of India (PFI).
They were residents of Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu and had been on the run from the law enforcement authorities. In November 2024, NIA traced the two terrorists in Kodaikanal but they managed to escape.

On 6th February 2019, V Ramalingam was brutally murdered by a group of Muslims belonging to PFI for opposing religious conversion.
The Hindu activist was assaulted in Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district on his way back home. His hands were chopped off. Ramalingam died on the way to the hospital due to excessive bleeding.
According to the NIA, Ramalingam was murdered with the intent to create fear among the people and spread communal hatred.
