‘Journalist’ turned YouTuber Ravish Kumar has made a faux pas while trying to target the Modi government for gifting a 7.5-carat diamond to Jill Biden during his state visit to the US in 2023.
On Wednesday (1st January), the US National Archives and Records Administration published a report [pdf], wherein it listed gifts received from foreign government sources.
On Page 12 of the report, it was mentioned that the 7.5-carat diamond gifted by PM Modi to Jill Biden (the first lady of the United States) on the 22nd June 2023 cost an estimated $20000.

YouTuber Ravish Kumar exploited the opportunity to target the Modi government and accuse it of splurging taxpayer’s money during foreign visits.
While trying to peddle propaganda on Friday (3rd December), he conveniently forgot the US dollar to the Indian rupee currency exchange rate.
Ravish Kumar falsely claimed that the 7.5-carat lab-grown, eco-friendly diamond gifted by PM Modi was worth ₹68 lakhs. This would have been true had the diamond cost $79274.
Given that the gift was only worth $20000, the equivalent price in Indian currency stood at ₹17.15 lakhs.
In the meantime, sources quoted by The Times of India have claimed that the diamond gifted by the Indian Prime Minister during his 2023 US visit was less than ₹2 lakhs (~$2331).
