Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, has extended his support to reservation. He stated, “We have maintained from day one that the constitutional provisions regarding reservation should remain unchanged. It was introduced with the objective of bringing equality in the society and should continue until that goal is achieved. There is no doubt about it.”

Kishor indicated that the subject of sub-categorisation of reservations has been under discussion in multiple states for several years. Furthermore, a commission for this purpose was formed during the tenure of the Manmohan Singh government. He insisted that although this debate is a separate concern, the constitutional structure governing reservations should not be altered.
In 2023, Kishor made a similar statement when he claimed that reservation as stipulated in the Constitution was appropriate and should be maintained until social equality was attained.
Notably, Kishor has consistently asserted his role as a catalyst for political change in Bihar, emphasising issues such as employment and development over caste and religion. “There is one success: the discourse of Bihar’s politics has shifted from caste to employment. We brought focus on jobs and development. I dreamt of change in Bihar,” he stated after last year’s assembly election, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a remarkable victory.
Kishor has repeatedly presented himself as a reformer who has entirely distanced himself from the conventional caste and religion-based politics in the state. In fact, he showcased this as his leading unique selling feature during the election campaign. Moreover, despite his lofty declarations about politics beyond caste and centred on development, he has invoked reservations to serve his electoral ambitions.
