Open threats of anarchy and violence? RJD leader Sunil Singh says Bihar will turn into Nepal or Bangladesh if any ‘malpractice’ is observed

A day before the counting of votes begins in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Sunil Singh has threatened a Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka-like unrest if the results are ‘manipulated’. He even claimed many RJD MLAs were forcefully defeated in the 2020 state assembly elections.

“…Many of our candidates were forcibly defeated in 2020…..I have requested all our officials involved in the counting process that, if you defeat the person whom the public has given their mandate, the same scenes you witnessed on the roads in Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka will be seen on the roads of Bihar as well. You will see the common people taking to the streets…We are absolutely vigilant about this, and we urge you not to do anything that goes against public sentiment, that the public will not accept… We are getting 140-160 seats and the new government will be formed in the state under Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership.” Singh said on 13th November.

Clearly, by ‘malpractice’, the RJD leader essentially meant his party’s defeat.

Meanwhile, the Bihar DGP has ordered filing of an FIR against the RJD leader Sunil Singh over his inflammatory remarks.

“An FIR is being registered over this undesirable and inflammatory statement,” DGP Vinay Kumar said.

It is notable that RJD has throughout its election campaign has been attacking the integrity of the Election Commission and casting aspersions over the transparency of the electoral process. Moreover, the RJD’s campaign has been all about re-igniting anti-Savarn politics of the 1990s. The party has also been using songs glorifying violence, kidnappings and Yadav caste supremacism, hinting their clear desire of bringing back the infamous Jungle Raj in the state.
