Stampede situation happened because some devotees tried to break barriers, Akharas have agreed to postpone Amrit Snan: CM Yogi appeals for co-operation and discipline

Acknowledging the stampede-like situation early on the night of Mauni Amavasya on January 29, CM Yogi Adityanath has stated that around 10 crore devotees are expected to take the holy dip in Prayagraj on Mauni Amavasya and the administration is trying its best to facilitate smooth movement of all devotees.

CM Yogi has stated that a large group of devotees tried to break the barricades erected in preparation for the Amrit Snan procession by Akharas on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. In the attempt to break the barricades and rush to the Sangam area, many devotees were seriously injured. The administration has made all possible arrangements for their treatment.

“The administration has taken all measures to allow the holy dip on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. The Amavasya muhurt has stated since the evening of January 28 and apart from that one incident, everything has been proceeding normally. A high-level meeting was conducted with the PMO, police leadership and chief secretary. Though the situation is under control, the crowd gathered here is unprecedented, so we need co-operation from all sides to ensure that the Maha Kumbh proceeds safely,” CM Yogi stated.

“The Sadhus and Mahamandaleshwars of all Akharas have voluntarily agreed that they will waive their tradition of taking the first holy dips on Amrit Snan, and they have stated that devotees who have travelled from all over the country should be allowed to bathe first”, CM Yogi added, adding that saints and Mahamandaleshwars of all Akharas have assured that they would proceed for the holy dip only after the peak rush of devotees has reduced later in the day.

Adequate security arrangements have been made at Sangam nose, Akhara Marg, Nag Vasuki Marg etc. I appeal again to all devotees that they should take the holy dip at their nearest ghat and not try to come towards the Sangam nose area. Please do not believe in any rumours and co-operate with the administration for their own safety and wellbeing.
