Zakir Hussain had been admitted to the hospital for the past two weeks. He was later taken to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) after his condition worsened.
Zakir Hussain is the son of legendary tabla player Ustad Allah Rakha. His 1973 collaboration with English guitarist John McLaughlin, violinist L Shankar, and percussionist Vikku Vinayakram fused Indian classical music with jazz, redefining global music. A five-time Grammy winner, Hussain won three awards earlier this year at the 66th Grammys.
